In case you haven’t been paying attention, Vizio has an 8-inch Android 2.3 tablet up its sleeve and is just about ready to unleash it on the masses. They are hosting a pre-order via their site where you can plop down $400 to reserve your piece of Gingerbread tablet action. With your pre-order you receive the slate, a 16GB microSD card, and folio case. You can opt to skip the bundled accessories for $379.99. All will ship beginning July 18th with the tablet going on sale in stores during the week of the 25th. Head on over to Vizio’s site to call dibs on your own.

The sweet spot for a 7/8 inch tablet is $200 and $300 for a 10-inch. Until we see up-to-spec Android tablets at those price points, they won’t be setting the world on fire or wresting the crown from Apple.
You won’t see any up to spec tablet of any kind at those price ranges ever.
Looks like the industry agrees with you, which is why they continue to sink development dollars into tablets that continue to fail. And yet the Nook Color can be had today for $249. Admittedly not really up to spec, but incredibly popular and now owns 20% of the e-reader market a year after it hit the market. We’ll get there, as technology always trends cheaper, and when we do, the real market for tablets will bust out like a flood.
Sure, if you want a resistive screen. Such as this: http://ydfgg.com/2010/10/28/99-walgreens-tablet-10-inch-1ghz-toys-r-us-tablet/
Gingerbread? Wait a second…
Can’t put Honeycomb on it because it is a smaller tablet. Once Ice Cream comes out there will be unification across devices. That is if OEMs and carriers do an OTA, otherwise root and go vanilla or custom.
Netbooks sold like gangbusters (did that is) at $300 pricepoints – a tablet (with less hardware and an open-sources OS) should be able to go for that easily.
Interesting sounding device. Like the 8 to 8.9 inch size range. Need to see some specs first though
