Mobile payment service Square app was updated in the Android Market today to version 2.1. With the update, came a few new tricks to make those sketchy Craigslist transactions easier than ever. There is now less downtime when checking out a “customer,” sending them on their way in as little as 4 seconds thanks to the new ability to to skip signatures for transactions under $25. Also added, was a more optimized tipping interface allowing for a customer to add gratuity with a single tap.
The new version of Square 2.1 is now available on the Android Market and as always, when you register, you get the handy credit card reader mailed to you for free.
Yes. With all the talk about people stealing credit card numbers, I’m pretty sure a random person on the streets will let me swipe their credit card using my phone. -_-
Now, don’t get me wrong. I’d love to use this daily. Be all like, I accept credit. LoL!!
But with the way things are now, I don’t think ppL would be so “willing” to just swipe their card into my phone. Just sayin…
But I won’t give up on this. I’ll see what the future foretells. This would make Craigslist a heck of a lot easier. :P
I’m with you. It’s like, “Hi, I don’t know you but I saw your ad on Craigslist. Here’s my credit card – skim all my details from it. If you’re lucky, you might get my PIN too”.
I use it for my business all the time…people are very receptive to it.
I use it for my business here in NYC and I take a picture of the person or their card. I tell them it protects them from fraud and me from charge backs. so far, it works 100% of the time. I have had ZERO problems.
And I live in NYC where we trust no one. :-)
Is there a way to save the description of a transaction so you can bring it up again, and again? For example, I’m using it in a salon so I’ll have to type ‘haircut’ in the description for the receipt over and over again during the day. Is it possible to save ‘haircut’ some place and pop it into the description window each time I run a transaction so I don’t have to keep typing it in?
