While some would argue that a new device “soak test” holds no value when it comes to its newsworthiness, I beg to differ. Soak tests can be a great way for users to get a preview of what’s coming around the bend for their beloved devices. Take the upcoming Motorola Droid Razr/Maxx soak test we told you guys about last week. While at first it was scheduled to be nothing more than your average maintenance update (that admittedly, never happened), it now looks like things could have taken a turn for the better.
According to Droid-Life, who received a tip from a member of the Motorola Feedback Network that the previous Razr/Maxx 6.12.181 software update has been scrapped. Instead, Motorola is going full steam ahead with the it-couldn’t-come-any-sooner Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade. All of this, coming form the Moto FN forums manager, who made the following statement (but has since been removed):
The Motorola Feedback Network is an almost “secret society” forum where daring users can sign their life away and become beta testers for new device updates. Now, if this rumored ICS soak test checks out, and there aren’t any device threatening bugs, we can expect a full-on rollout for the masses shortly thereafter. And that, my friends, is why we like getting the inside scoop on soak tests. You guys hyped?

Ya…know ireally like this phone. It’s thin, fast as hell and has a bigger screen then the iphone. The battery is insane on this thing too…glad to see Andriod in a phone that has the best cellphone battery out there…if the price was lower iwould have had one along time ago. Now,however seeing new phones coming out iamwondering and waiting to see it matched or topped by another Android phone…before the iphone does this. HTC has a cool build…but they just cant or won’t give their phones a decent battery for the life of them…heres hoping for the new Galaxy phones…ilol and heres hoping for a damn Galaxy III on Verizon.
What is a soak test??? To soak something means to get it wet.
lol. It means they send out the (nearly) completed update to a fraction of the total phone owners make sure it’s free of any major bugs, before they push the update out to the public. I know the name doesn’t make any sense.
Actually if you think of it like the way you take a cold shower before getting into a cold swimming pool and therefore makes the swimming pool that much nicer, that’s a soak test.
Or- Think of if someone were afraid of water, and when preparing them for a whole pool, you SOAK them with a bucket of water to TEST their reaction to it.
I have participated in motorola soak tests in the past. And every time it has meant that a firmware update was about a week away from being released to everyone. Very exciting news for RAZR owners. Moto takes a lot of heat for how long it takes to update devices, but people who talk that trash obviously never owned a phone made by Samsung. Keep up the good work Motorola.

Meanwhile, we Bionic owners…the FIRST dual core 4G, supposed *flagship* device…continue to be cast aside. I couldn’t give a rats patootie about your updates, Moto, because I know you’re eventually going to renege on your promise to update my phone…and because of that I’ll never own another of your devices.

All for a stupid update? No wonder Adam Tentis told you to grow up.
It’d make me mad too if I (still) had the Bionic, he’s got a phone with nearly the same specs as the Razr, that’s been out longer than the Razr, but it won’t be getting the ICS update until afterwards.
But it’s not a reason to never buy Moto again, they’ve got the best build quality & battery life by far IMO.
Atleast its actually getting the update. Maybe updating different phones varies, due to the complex internals of each phone (see earlier article posted about a week or so ago by Phandroid).
The guy/girl was acting like Moto just crushed his life in front of him/her. The fact that its actually getting the update is a good thing. I don’t see the rush for the update. Its not absolutely essential. Its just a nice plus. Its not like he/she would be left in the dark without the update.
